We seek to learn and grow together by study texts from within our sacred tradition and without; reflecting on and discussing art and music; creating art, crafts and nurturing spaces; playing together and listening deeply to each other, our neighbors and creation. We trust that as we learn and grow together we might better understand our faith, the world God loves, and how to live faithfully.

Here are some of the ways we are currently learning and growing together. We hope there is something here that might call to you!

A COMMUNITY CONVERSATION:

CREATING A DEMENTIA FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

Dementia is an increasing reality in our lives, with a new case diagnosed every 3 seconds. It is estimated that 70% of those living with Dementia are living in community, and many report that social isolation and stigmatization make life especially tough.

This forum will provide information, education, and resources on Dementia and related illnesses. Marigrace Becker, MSW, Director of the UW Memory Hub, will present the keynote with Q & A. We will host a panel on caregiving, and resources will be available from providers, including Aging and Disability Services.

Creating a dementia friendly community on the Plateau is possible and would make a significant difference to countless neighbors and loved ones.

GOSPEL OF LUKE BIBLE STUDY

Starting Sept 21st

Join us as we dive into the Gospel of Luke with guidance from N.T. Wright, who brings the New Testament to life by unpacking the ideas and events that shaped Jesus’ story. Whether you're new to the faith or a longtime follower, you'll find inspiration and practical wisdom in this study.

Contact Lynne Snyder for information.

Sundays 10:45 – 11:30 AM in the Community Center

Tuesdays, 7:00 – 8:00 PM, on Zoom

All are Welcome!

A COMMUNITY BOOK GROUP

We gather at our local bookstore, The Dusty Shelf, to discuss books that engage current social and cultural issues. In September and October, we are exploring and learning about indigenous peoples and how we grow together as kin. Our pattern is to alternate between a non-fiction and a novel on each chosen subject.

All are welcome as we grow community by engaging in respectful and open conversation. Books can be ordered from the Dusty Shelf, or contact the church office if you need help getting a book.

Next gathering is 10 am on Saturday November 28th when we will discuss The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown.

CARING HANDS BIBLE STUDY

A women’s group study of Finding Resilience, Joy, and Our identity in Jesus Christ by Rev. Rashell D. Hunter. This book explores resilience modeled by the life of Jesus and other biblical figures and how we can find Christian joy in a chaotic world. Contact Cherie Murchie for more info.

Tuesday 10am in the Fellowship Hall at Calvary

GAMES NIGHT

Join us for a couple of fun hours of games and conversation. We regularly play a variety of games. Our favorites include Pinochle, Dominoes, and Kwirkle. We’ll teach you how to play if you need, and we are open to suggestions if you have another favorite. Contact Lynne or Brocc Snyder for more info.

Friday Evenings 6pm in the Fellowship Hall at Calvary

CRAFTING COMMUNITY

This informal group provides space to work on crafts and reflect together on our daily lives. You can bring your own hand craft, or we have some available for you to pick up, or sometimes we will come together on a joint craft. You do not have to consider yourself crafty or artistic to join the fun - we are happy to help you get started. This is just a space to play and create and grow community

Contact Megan Brech for more info.

1st and 3rd Mondays in the Community Center at Calvary
